Grow Your Own
Oyster Mushroom Coffee Bags
a chance to experience first-hand, the intriguing and beautiful journey of an oyster mushroom.
Placed on a window sill that doesn’t receive direct sunshine they can be easily grown in any home. Once growing it is difficult not to become addicted to watching the mushroom develop. Each crop is unique in colour and character, rapidly changing in its five day growing period. All you have to do is ensure the bag receives its twice daily misting particularly crucial when the mushroom first appears (“pinning”).
All the oyster mushrooms grown at Fungusloci utilise spent coffee grounds but the Grow Your Own Coffee Bags have the added touch of being grown in recycled coffee bean packets. Not only are we diverting coffee grounds from ending up as landfill but also using the very bags the coffee beans were first delivered in!
The Grow Your Own Coffee Bags are sold when the recycled coffee grounds have been completely myceliated (when the coffee has been engulfed by mycelium). This is usually a month after their mixing date which is written on the bag. Patience may be in order though as some bags can take many weeks before any sign of action. Each bag should yield three- five harvests with intermittent resting periods of two weeks or so.
